About Course

This course is designed to develop the skills necessary to research and write academic essays.

  • The American Psychological Association (APA) style.
  • Rules of APA Style, detailed in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, offer sound guidance for writing with simplicity, power, and concision.
  • APA Style has been adopted by many disciplines and is used by writers around the world.

What Will You Learn?

  • Various types of essays
  • Correctly quote, summarize or paraphrase from a source
  • Research a topic and critically assess opinions on the topic
  • Develop a thesis statement, topic sentences and paragraphs that are both coherent and cohesive
  • Describe Cite source material according to APA standards
  • Produce an outline and/or a map of an essay
  • Detect common grammatical mistakes in their writing and in editing exercises
