About Course

This course introduces students to three critical components in the Business environment context:

  • Ethics (moral philosophy)
  • Corporate Social Responsibility
  • The connection to Environmental Sustainability

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have demonstrated the ability to:
1. Explain the terms and implications of the following concepts: ethics, social responsibility, morals
2. Explain how corporate social responsibility (CSR) evolved and encompasses economic, legal, ethical, and philanthropic components
3. Determine how moral philosophy affects the decisions human beings make in their everyday lives
4. Describe the complexities of environmental sustainability issues as they relate to the intricate connections between people and the planet (systems thinking)
5. Articulate the concept where ethical values are embedded in the premises and assumptions of all decisions we make concerning land and resource use
6. Evaluate environmental sustainability challenges with a futurist thinking perspective including possible futures (what may happen), plausible futures (what could happen), probable futures (what likely will happen), and preferable futures (what we want to have happen)
7. Express awareness of the mind shift that needs to happen for society to adopt sustainable environmental practices
8. Suggest solutions and hypothesize on ways to mitigate carbon footprints
